Vital Records

Vital Records can be obtained at the Town Clerk's Office during window hours and online. Please note that the State of New Hampshire limits the availability of vital records to spouse, children, parents, siblings (immediate family) and those with a direct and tangible interest in the record. If you are not immediate family, please bring proof of a direct and tangible interest.

Family members that are not considered immediate family by the State of New Hampshire are cousins, nephews, nieces, and in-laws.

To request a copy of a birth, marriage, or death certificate, provide

  • A current photo ID such as a driver's license
  • Complete a form provided at the office or online

Marriage License Application

Marriage license applications can be obtained at the clerk's office during window hours, but we reserve the right to ask you to come back if you come without an appointment. (Please note the fee for the license; this does not include a copy of the completed marriage license for your records.)

  • Please note that both marriage partners need to be present.
  • Both parties need to provide a current photo ID and a birth certificate or passport.
  • If previously married, you will need to bring the notarized divorce decree or annulment paperwork for the most recent divorce or annulment. Please, no copies. If you are a widow or widower, please bring a death certificate of your spouse.
  • Both parties will need to know the full names and birthplaces of both parents. Check spellings with your relatives before arrival.
  • Decided upon any name change option available before you arrive to fill out paperwork.
  • If you are not using a NH Justice of the Peace or a NH ordained clergyman, please visit the Special Marriage Officiant Licenses Website, which provides information about obtaining special licenses for your wedding. Read carefully, as each application has specific restrictions. Plan - these licenses must be obtained before the service, and in most cases, last 90 days.

After Vital Records has received and recorded the officiant's information, copies of the marriage certificate can be ordered.

  • Order the online payment system under Vital Records by visiting the EB2 GOV Website.
  • Visit our window during office hours in person with a current ID and fill out the request form.
  • The current cost for an initial copy is $15, and subsequent copies ordered at the same time are $10.
    • Please note, if ordered online, a mailing fee of $1 is added to the transaction, and depending on the payment type, additional fees may apply.
