Local Information & Resources

Public Alerting

Public emergency notifications are delivered through various means, including weather alert radios, town sirens and automated Rapid Emergency Notification Telephone System (RENTS).

Sheltering

The Chesterfield School is equipped with a generator, enabling the facility to be used as an emergency shelter. Other venues are also available or under consideration as emergency shelters.

Natural Disasters

Weather and other naturally occurring events constitute by far the most common threat to our community. The Emergency Management team and other town departments work constantly to mitigate existing hazards, and to plan for and optimize response to such events.

Health Emergencies

Members of the Emergency Management team attend monthly meetings of a Regional Coordinating Committee (RCC), where representatives from area towns and local agencies work together with the County and State to develop, refine and update plans for any health-related emergency.

Radiological Planning

The OEM team works closely with the State and Entergy to ensure that we are as well prepared as possible to deal with any emergency at the Vermont Yankee nuclear power generating plant. This includes regular training, and a series of drills followed by a FEMA-rated exercise every two years.

Information Sources
