Obtaining an Absentee Ballot Application
For General and Primary Elections (ex. Presidential Elections in 2024) use this form.

- Dropped off at the Town Clerk's Office during operating hours
- Emailed to the town clerk (no electronic signatures accepted on form)
- Mailed to the town clerk: Town Clerk, P.O. Box 64, Chesterfield, NH 03443
Once an absentee ballot application has been received the Town Clerk's office will hand or mail out a ballot. Please make sure to use a pen OR a #2 pencil to complete your absentee ballot, no markers or sharpies please. Ensure that the ballot is put in the affidavit envelope and that you sign the envelope as instructed on the How To page enclosed with all absentee ballots.
Registering to Vote in the State of New Hampshire
Register to vote in person at the Town Clerk's Office during window hours OR during a meeting of the Supervisors of the Checklist (supervisor's meetings are announced at the Chesterfield Post Office and in the Town Office Bldg).
Please note that approximately 10-13 days before an election, voter registration closes at the Town Clerk's Window. Same day registration and voting is available in New Hampshire. Please review information below to ensure you bring appropiate identification.
To register to vote in New Hampshire you must show documentation to demonstrate:
- US Citizenship
- Age
- Photo ID
- Domicile address in town you are voting
Examples to meet these requirements are:
- US Citizenship = Birth Certificate, Passport, naturalization paperwork
- Age = Birth Certificate, passport, naturalization paperwork, State ID
- Photo ID = Driver's License, Passport, Student ID
- Domicile address in town = State ID with current Chesterfield address, rental/mortgage agreement
If you cannot meet these requirements, you may fill out and sign forms on the day of voting. These forms will be reviewed by the Supervisors of the Checklist and submitted to the Secretary of States Office (SOS). You will need to produce proper identification within a period outlined in the documents for your affidavit ballot to be accepted.
If you are temporarily away and cannot register to vote in-person you may request an absentee ballot with absentee voter registration materials. To do this - mark the 2nd bullet on Section 1 of the appropriate Absentee Voter Form.
